I am to commandeer a sailing vessel to sail across the Atlantic
Now I need crew and expeditions funds.
Our daily lives on the island is much consumed by taking care of our farm. Our farm is on a hill on the southeast corner of the island and we have the most beautiful 240 degrees ocean view. Still, our seashore and boat days are somehow much in the past and we just never go in the water like we used to. So when mom came to visit, I figured it was time for a boat trip. I took her island hopping on our little trawler for a week and we had the most amazing time. When I got back to the daily grind I fell into a little depression and soon realized I needed to go sailing. Living by the ocean was simply not enough. I craved salty adventures.
Lo and behold, two weeks later my ex boyfriend from uni days calls me up. His wife and him have lived on their sailboat for half a decade and needed to go ashore, buy a farm and get some goats. What if I sailed the boat from Europe, kept it in my care for some years and then they could come visit every now and then? I knew it was exactly the adventure I was looking for.
I couldn’t sleep at night: How could I afford it? Who should I bring as crew? When can I do the crossing? Where would I keep the boat once I crossed to The Bahamas? Where would I keep her during hurricane season? I was home alone, hadn’t told my husband, but I knew this sailboat project just had to happen and all things would have to be figured out along the way. I called my best friend one o’clock in the morning. She was sipping morning coffee in a tent up in the snowy mountains in Norway. Her immediate response; I’m coming with you!
Planning a big expedition and adventure is truly the best feeling in the world. Doing it with your best friend even better!
Now we need to find crew, assess the boat and her equipment and make a budget for expedition funds.
Come along on our adventure!
